Sirsa – On an exhortation by Sant Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan of Dera Sacha Sauda, scores of young men are coming forwards to marry and thus rehabilitate female sex workers. The Dera plans to give a major impetus by 25th January, 2010 , to this latest humanitarian endeavour. This day coincides with the birthday celebrations of the previous preceptor saint, Shah Satnamji Maharaj. The program is expected to be attended by over 10 million members, who will further actively embark on an international program against such social evils .

Till now,over 1306 Dera followers(Bhakt Yodha) have publicly announced their intentions to marry sex workers, 186 families have come forward to accept them as sister / daughter and 32 families have expressed their intentions to adopt previously born children of rehabilitated sex workers. following Guruji’s call to the devotees to counter the evil of prostitution.

Sant Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan had made this announcement of his intent to help the poor unfortunate sex workers who are leading a hellish life ensnared and entrapped in this ignoble trade. Addressing a gathering numbering thousands at Sirsa, Guruji appealed to broadminded young men to come forwards to end the menace. It is important to understand that poor women and girls who are trapped into a life of perpetual slavery have no opportunity to exit their dreary existence. Responding to the media queries Guruji added that the female sex workers who were afflicted with HIV or other venereal diseases would be offered treatment as well as socio-economic rehabilitation. Additionally, their children would be offered schooling in free schools that would be opened by Dera Sacha Sauda.

A leading health analyst Dr. MP Singh, formerly at the AIIMS, observed that all HIV prevention till date was largely condom centric . “Behaviour change ought to have wider connotations than the mere modification of the terminal sex act,” he added, lauding Dera Sacha Sauda’s efforts in this direction.
Guruji further added that the plight of the transgenders or Hijras was also pathetic. Schools ,vocational training and employment opportunities would also be generated for them to draw them out of the throes of marginalization . Dera Sacha Sauda already has a campaign called the ‘Shahi Betian Basera’ that caters to adoption of girl children from those families that were convinced to forgo abortions of their unborn daughters.

When someone pointed out that the world’s most ancient profession could probably never be eradicated, Guruji replied with humility that society must not give up until a beginning has been made. Dera Sacha Sauda holds two Guinness world records in blood donations and is also the most prolific eye donor organization in the country. It has also ventured in a diverse of humanitarian projects ranging from tribal emancipation to humanitarian aid following natural disasters. Dera Sacha Sauda has a membership totaling 35 million all across the world who are free to profess whatever religions they belong to.
