The devotees of Dera Sacha Sauda celebrated India's Independence Day & the holy birthday of revered Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji by organising a country-wide mega tree plantation drive on 15th August, 2009. In this massive drive to help stabilize our fragile ecology and combat pollution, an eight- hour effort by 1,69,910 participants throughout India culminated in the planting of 68,73,451 saplings. This drive was inaugurated by Guru ji at 9:15 A.M. and within the 1st one hour, a record 9,38,007 saplings were planted, thus bettering the Guinness World Record in process, although official documentation shall take a while.

Speaking to Newsmen Guruji said that the mindless denudation of the planet's tree cover has brought about tremendous climatic changes. . Guru ji observed that the failure of monsoons coupled with untimely non-seasonal downpour at other times have adversely affected
agricultural output. Guru ji further exhorted everyone not only to plant trees but also to nurture them as their own children. Thousands of dera followers including members of Guruji's family enthusiastically and energetically participated in this noble effort- a new world record set by Dera Sacha Sauda.
